What are Effects?

Effects are extra actions that can be attached when people interact with certain Gloo texting features. An Effect added to a feature can perform any of 4 different actions, and multiple Effects can be set up on the same feature.

  • Add a person to a group.

  • Remove a person from a group if they are in it.

  • Remove person from a series.

  • Email team members.

What does "Add person to a group" mean?

This means that whenever anyone texts in the keyword (on the Series or Keyword) or asks a question covered in the Quick Responses, they can automatically get added to any group you choose.

For example:

  • When someone texts in "New," they receive your Keyword reply of, "Thanks for visiting our church today! We look forward to getting to know you more. Please fill out our connect card to be entered into our New Guest raffle!" They will also automatically be added to your group: New Guests.

  • When someone texts in "Guest," they get opted into your Devotional series for New Guest Follow Up. They also get automatically added to the group: New Guests.

Note: For groups that you have synced over from your Church Management Database through an Integration (Planning Center, CCB, etc), all group management must be done in the ChMS itself, not Gloo. If you set an Effect to add someone to a Planning Center group upon texting in a Keyword, it will NOT work.

What does "Remove person from a group if they are in it" mean?

This means that whenever anyone texts in the keyword (on the Series or Keyword) or asks a question covered in the Quick Responses, they can automatically be removed from a group if they are currently in it.

For example:

  • When someone texts in "Grateful," they receive your Keyword reply of, "Thanks for subscribing to our Thanksgiving devotional. You have successfully opted out of receiving communication related to it." They then get removed from your group called "Holiday Subscribers."

  • When someone texts in "Married," they receive your Keyword reply, "Thanks for letting us know you no longer want to be in the Singles Church Group. You will stop receiving communication related to it." They then get removed from your group called "Singles Church Group."

Note: You can use Effects to add and remove people from groups that were synced from your church management system. However, those changes will only impact the groups in Gloo, not in the ChMS. In order to update a group in the ChMS, you must update the group directly in the ChMS, not in Gloo.

What does "Remove person from a series" mean?

This means that whenever anyone texts in the keyword (on the Series or Keyword) or asks a question covered in the Quick Responses, they can automatically be unsubscribed from a series.

For example:

  • When someone texts in "Christmas Devotional End," they receive your Keyword reply of, "You have successfully opted out of our Christmas Devotional." They then get opted out of your devotional Series.

What does "Email team members" mean?

This means that whenever anyone texts in the keyword (on the Series or Keyword) or asks a question covered in the Quick Responses, a chosen team member will automatically be emailed.

For example:

  • When someone asks a question like, "Where do I give?" your lead pastor gets an email letting them know that someone asked about giving so that you can reach out and personally thank them.

What features can I add Effects to?
